Good morning Hawks,

We are excited for Monday February 8, 2021 when we can all return to Monsignor Haller!  Upon our return we look forward to all classes joining together as a school community for prayer, morning announcements and a Google Meet assembly to review school health and safety protocols.  We continue to be committed to keeping our Hawks safe and healthy!

If you received a chromebook from the school to engage in learning remote, please make sure that you return it to school on Monday February 8thBoth the cord and the chromebook must be returned the way it was lent to you.   All the chromebooks lent are chromes that travel from class to class and are used daily.  Upon our return, staff and students will dive right back into curriculum.  To assist with the pivoting transition from remote learning, we require all borrowed chromebooks to be returned on the first day back so they may be quarantined, disinfected, signed back into our system, and then returned to classrooms for student use.

This is an excellent time to ensure you bring back library books as well!  If you have an outstanding library book, it will be collected on Monday as well.

Other important reminders:

1.Please note the ENHANCED Protocols  in Public Health & Safety / WCDSB COVID Protocol:  Mandatory Masking:  Students in Grades 1 to 12 must wear masks or face coverings:

  • in schools, including in hallways and during classes
  • on school transportation
  • outdoors as social distancing cannot be maintained
  • Students in kindergarten are encouraged, but not required, to wear non-medical or cloth masks in indoor spaces
  • Students must bring 2 masks to school – 1 indoor and 1 outdoor (due to masks becoming wet after being outdoors in the winter) – all students received at least 3 board masks to ensure they have enough

2.  Flipgive!  Our school FLIPGIVE account is still up and running.  Please join our FlipGive team and use it when you shop.  The account can be found at: and our TEAM CODE QH4DTB.  Please join today and share the code with anyone and everyone!

3.  The weather is very cold and we are still going outside at recess and lunch.  Please dress for the weather.  Hats, mitts, snow pants, and a warm pair of boots are necessary.  Also, please bring back your indoor shoes so that you have something to wear in the classroom.

It is that time of year when students need to be reminded of the necessity of dressing properly for the weather (e.g., mittens, hats, scarves, snowpants, boots, etc.). Items that are labelled will be easier for your child to track down, as many boots and mittens look very similar.  A number of items make their way to the Lost and Found and are often not claimed, so be sure to remind your child to ask the office to check if an item has been lost . We ask that each child have indoor footwear (e.g., running shoes to wear in the school and boots to wear outside).

Younger students who are not wearing snowpants or winter boots will be reminded to play on the drier blacktop area.  We do not have access to a washing machine or dryer at school – therefore children without winter clothing are encouraged to stay out of the wet snow and to bring an extra set of bottoms and socks in their backpacks.

When we experience wintry weather throughout the year schools follow School Board policy when deciding to keep students indoors during winter.  Students remain inside when temperatures, including wind chill, are at or below minus 20°C;  we will monitor the weather conditions daily and make decisions based upon our local conditions.

Otherwise all students will go outside for recesses and lunches. Students must dress for the weather and be prepared to be outside before school, during the two 15-minute recess and the 40-minute lunch break.  Requests from students to stay in due to inadequate winter clothing, not liking the cold weather etc. cannot be accommodated.  It is very important for students to understand they will redirected to play outside.

Students requesting to stay in due to having a cold or not feeling well will be sent home due to COVID protocols.

Please check the weather each day before your children leave for school to ensure that they are coming to school dressed appropriately to go outside every day. We are using the Environment Canada weather station website for the information needed to decide on indoor or outdoor recesses. (

In the event of severe weather, please listen to the local radio stations for school closure or bus cancellation information beginning at 6:45 a.m. Announcements are made approximately every quarter hour. Additionally, all cancellation updates can be found on the WCDSB website ( under the Cancellations tab.

4.  Elementary Transition Survey:  If you are currently attending Monsignor Haller and you are interested in attending school virtually at St. Isidore, or if you are currently registered at St. Isidore and you are looking to rejoin our community face-to-face, your opportunity to make this transition is coming from February 16-18.  Please see  for more information.

Stay Safe Hawks!
