Today your child is bringing home his/her Elementary Progress Report Card for the current school year. The purpose of the Progress Report is:
“To show a student’s development of the learning skills and work habits during the fall, as well as a student’s general progress in working towards the achievement of the curriculum expectations in all subjects.” (Growing Success, 2010 Ministry Document. p. 50.).
The Elementary Progress Report Card is intended to become a central part of the discussion with students and their parents in the context of proactive conferences with teachers that will allow students and parents to gain a better understanding of student’s learning skills and work habits as well as learning goals.
Please complete the response form on page 2 on the Report Card by including parent/guardian and student comments and a Goal for Improvement. We would ask that you bring this signed form to the conference with you so that it can be attached to your child’s report in their Ontario School Record. The response section provides an opportunity for you to comment positively and constructively on your child’s progress and achievement during the school year. This section attests to how home and school can work together to improve student learning. If you have any concerns other than these, please direct them to your child’s teacher via phone call or note. When completing the response form, you and your child may wish to consider the following questions:
What is something that you do well?
What do you want to learn more about this term?
How do you need to improve this term?
What will you do to improve your work or your effort?
What do you see as a real strength for your child? What do you see your child doing well?
Where have you seen your child struggling or having difficulty?
What does your child need to improve?
What steps will you take during this term to help your child?
We thank you for the support you have provided during the beginning of this school year to ensure successful learning for your child. Just a reminder that Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences are scheduled for this Thursday. Sign up times were sent home for you to select a time last week. You will receive your 15 minute scheduled time in your child’s Report Card envelope. If you are unable to make that scheduled time, please call the office or your child’s teacher and we will provide you with other options. Thank you!
