Good morning Haller Hawk Families,

Please review the following ‘News from the Nest’:

Advent ~ We continue to celebrate the Holy season of Advent focusing on the weekly  themes of hope, peace, joy and  love. Each week, we light a candle as we prepare for His holy birth. May we always remember that ‘Jesus is the reason for the season’.

Daily Screening ~ Thank you to all families for doing a great job with screening your child(ren) for COVID symptoms before coming to school each day. Please continue using the Covid-19 School Screening tool before students arrive at school, and follow the directions provided from the screener.

Parents, please listen to your child(ren) if they tell you they feel unwell in the morning and keep your child(ren) home. It is very important that we continue our diligence in keeping all students, staff and families safe. If the illness is unrelated to COVID, your child may return to school 24 hours after being symptom free.  If your child has any one of the following COVID symptoms talk with a doctor/health care provider to get advice or an assessment, including if your child needs a COVID-19 test:

  • fever/chills
  • Cough or barking cough
  • shortness of breath
  • Decrease or loss of taste or smell
  • nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

Potential Travel ~ A reminder that students under 12, travelling with vaccinated parents do not have to quarantine per se, but they are not allowed to return to school until 14 days from their return have passed. This is federal policy – guidance is found on the webpage:

Inclement Weather Protocol and Bus Cancellation Plan for WCDSB ~ As the weather begins to change, we would like to remind our school community of the protocols in place when busses are cancelled due to unsafe driving conditions for our school busses. This year, as was the case last year, when school busses are cancelled, our school will be closed and we will have a remote learning day. Your child(ren)’s teacher will communicate with you/your child(ren) prior to 9:30 am. Students may work on these learning tasks at their own pace while at home. Teachers are available to support your child throughout the morning with the assigned work as needed.

Bus Students ~  Parents kindly remind your child(ren) that the seating plan created by the drivers and Student Transportation Services must be followed for contact tracing purposes.  If contact tracing needs to be completed for students riding on a bus, the seating plan is very important so we know who sits beside, behind, across etc.  Students may not switch seats.

Families are also asked to please review bus rules with the students to ensure everyone arrives to and from school/home safely. This includes remaining seated while the bus is in motion and keeping voices to a talking level so that the driver can concentrate on the road. Thank you for your help!
