Friday Flash…a look ahead!

Good morning Hawks,

We are hoping the remote learning has become a bit easier to navigate between the platforms, assignments and schedules.  We are hoping to hear an announcement soon to let us know if we are returning face to face.  In the meantime, it is really important to remind your children the importance of keeping their cameras and mics off during transition times and being aware when they are on for the learning.  A few best practices when cameras are on include:

■ the background setting should be considered –  a wall is ideal so the class does not see people walking behind

■ appropriate clothing is required just as it is in a physical school

■ others in the household should be aware that synchronous learning is taking place and that at times, the whole class may hear or see what’s happening

■ behaviour is expected to resemble that which would be deemed acceptable in school (e.g., sitting up, raising a hand when wanting to share)

■ don’t forget your camera is on when it’s on!

Thank you for your help with these tech tips!

Attached is an important letter from the Director of Education of WCDSB, it contains updates regarding your  learning choice for next year (face to face or virtual) and about vaccination of students from 12-17 years old.

Please note – ALL parents who want online learning for next year MUST complete the survey – even if you have already completed it in March.  The survey will be open for four days – May 31st through June 3rd.

Transition Survey for September 2021

Good morning Hawks,

We wanted to provide you with a “heads up” so that you can begin thinking about your preferences for September 2021.  On June 1-3, a survey will be made available that will ask you to choose between attending Monsignor Haller Catholic Elementary School face-to-face, or St. Isidore Catholic Elementary School virtually.

Please know that the option that you choose now will be your decision for the entire school year.  There will be no transition period between delivery platforms.

It is our hope that all students will feel comfortable in attending Monsignor Haller face-to-face, but understand any hesitation you may be feeling.  It is our hope that with increased numbers of staff and students being vaccinated and the necessary and appropriate safety protocols in place, we can continue to provide a safe and consistent learning environment for all students.

If you are conflicted between these options and are thinking about the home-schooling option, please call the office for more information at 519-579-1230

Please stay tuned to the WCDSB Newswire, Monsignor Haller’s Newswire alerts and the WCDSB Board website for updates and the release of the survey.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school at any time.

Stay Safe,

WCDSB Message: COVID-19 Testing

Good morning,

The WCDSB in partnership with the WRDSB have arranged local, free, voluntary COVID-19 testing for all asymptomatic (those who are not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms) students and staff is available as follows:

 Saturday, May 22, 2021

10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Eastwood Collegiate Institute

760 Weber St. E., Kitchener

No Appointment Necessary

ABOUT THE TEST

The test process is very simple and safe, and the collection site will be staffed by professionals who will be following a multitude of safety processes.

LifeLabs uses a swab similar to a Q-tip, that is inserted into the front part of the nostril and rotated for fifteen seconds (per nostril). After the sample is collected, the test results will then be available within 24-48 hours on the my.thrive.health website.

If an OHIP number has been provided at the time of check-in/registration, results will also be uploaded to https://covid19results.ehealthontario.ca:4443/agree

Thank you for helping us keep the community safe and healthy so that we can avoid any further disruption from the COVID-19 virus!
