Friday Flash…a look ahead!

Good morning Hawks,

I hope you enjoyed our HALLER FAMILY FRIDAY FUN  today!  Congratulations to Miss O’Neill’s class for guessing all 17 FAMOUS MUSTACHES correctly.  Next week we will join in a Catholic Education Liturgy together, followed by a game of “A Day in the Life” the following Friday.  I wish I could see everyone, but this is a close second right now!

Just a little note to let you all know that we continue to be so proud of our students (and you too parents!) for your dedicated efforts to remote learning.  We realize it is a huge change and that this is a daily challenge!  This is a huge shift and we could not be more proud of each of you! You are rocking it!! #hallerremoterockstars

As always, please know that we are here for you if any needs arise.  Do not hesitate to contact the school anytime.  School Boards have not received any updated information for returning to school, so until that time, we continue to remain online.   Please continue to listen to news media and check www.wcdsb.ca for the most recent news on potential return dates.

Next week is both Catholic Education Week and Canadian Mental Health Week. Please visit Catholic Education Week – Nurturing Hope (wcdsb.ca) and be welcomed by Father Joseph Please as he introduces us to this year’s theme of Nurturing Hope.

Congrats to our WELLNESS WINNERS this week.  Students will receive a swag bag with a Haller water bottle and a Booster Juice gift card!!  Stay active, stay healthy:

WCDSB Updates:

Reminder: The Waterloo Catholic District School Board assesses the viability of the Extended Day Program at all schools every year. A program is determined viable when there is sufficient parental interest. Parents demonstrate their interest by pre-registering for the Extended Day Program between January and April. Parents will be notified in or around May if the Extended Day Program will be offered at their school. Once a location has been determined viable, registration is ongoing, and children may enroll throughout the school year.

As always, please refer to www.wcdsb.ca for the most up to date news.

Remote Learning Check Ins

Good afternoon Hawks,

Return to School: School Boards have not received any updated information for returning to school.  As of today, there is no projected return to school date.

We are all getting better at understanding what works for children when learning at home, and of course our hope is that we keep working together to support your children  — both with the online academics as well as connecting socially.

The past week has allowed me to join google classroom lessons throughout the day and I am happy to share that each class has close to full participation everyday.  Well done everyone!

A reminder that it is important to log in for the afternoon start time of 12:35pm so that students are marked as present.  Coming in late will result in Mrs. Neves calling home as a check in.

We had positive feedback from many students after last week’s Easter liturgy where we joined all of our google classrooms into one whole school google meet to pray together.  We are hoping to continue this weekly in our: Haller Family Fun Fridays!

Please continue to listen to news media and follow www.wcdsb.ca for the most recent news.

Thank you,

Friday Flash…a look ahead!

Good morning Hawks,

As a community, we worked incredibly hard together earlier this year to adapt to remote learning during COVID-19 and the reality is such that we will do it again, and we will keep getting better at it each day! The pandemic has presented challenges. Yet, despite some of the challenges, there have also been many successes and our Haller community keeps adjusting with determination, perseverance…and even enthusiasm!

We all remain hopeful that we will be able to get back into the school learning together again soon.

Kind reminder, during remote learning we will continue to take attendance each day both in the morning and again in the afternoon. Our answering machine is available 24 hours a day and Mrs. Neves will be making calls to anyone who is absent from remote learning. If your child is not going to be present for online learning please call the school to let us know. If your child needs to log off earlier than the end of the scheduled day, please call in to let us know that as well.  Thank you

Congrats to our WELLNESS WINNERS this week.  Students will receive a swag bag with a Haller water bottle and a Booster Juice gift card!!  Stay active, stay healthy:

Parish Updates:

We are joyous that our grade 2 students were able to receive The Sacrament of Reconciliation over the spring break.  Reconciliation shows us that God is love and that He is always ready to forgive, no matter what the wrong.  In reconciliation, we are reminded that God already knows the secrets of our hearts, but sometimes we need to name these aloud in order to prepare our hearts to renew the experience of God’s love and forgiveness. We are thankful to Father Larry and all the work of the church & school staff in our sacramental preparations.  Thank you to Mrs. Mikuljan who prepared her students at school in collaboration with the church. Congratulations boys and girls!

Father Larry shared with us that the celebrations were among the most peaceful he has celebrated in 23 years of priesthood.  All families and children were very respectful and the time in the church provided some peace and quiet for families to spend together.

Moving forward however, the other sacraments of initiation (First Communion and Confirmation) are suspended until further notice due to the Stay at Home Order.  More information will be provided when it becomes available.

 Thank you for your understanding.

Return to Remote Learning Update

Good morning Hawks,

Our ‘Spring Break’ is nearing the end and we sincerely hope everyone has enjoyed their time. As announced by the Premier of the Province this past Monday, the return to school this week will be remote. We have done this before and we can do it again!

Monday, April 19th ~ Asynchronous Learning Day: This will be our first day ‘back to school’ and students will be engaged in asynchronous learning. This day will be like our adapted learning ‘Snow Days’. Teachers will post work on their Google Classroom by 10:00am for students to complete during the day.

Tuesday, April 20th ~ Synchronous Learning Begins: We will proceed with our regular school bell times. Teachers will post their class schedule (e.g.,  Language Arts/Math/French/Health/Music/Drama/Dance etc.) Attendance will be taken both morning and afternoon. Synchronous teaching does not mean that teachers and students are in front of the camera for the entire day. Synchronous teaching involves some time for a lesson and then even some possible asynchronous work for the students with the teacher being available for questions from students, either through email or an open meet link.

We extend our gratitude to you AGAIN for your continued support and we recognize that you are also doing your best to adapt to the changes and possible challenges. We are working together and all want what is best for your child. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher if needed.

Please see the attached WCDSB Virtual Code of Conduct to further help support your child’s learning remotely. Along with a kid-friendly Best Practice Guided you may review with your children.

Stay safe & stay healthy,

Tanya Hunter
