Friday Flash…a look ahead!

Good morning Hawks,

Principal’s Message:

Today is our Halloween Celebration at Haller!  We can’t wait to see our little ones dressed up and enjoying the events we have planned.  The morning will begin with our annual Halloween Parade that will be streamed into classrooms via Google Meet. A reminder to keep props at home, perhaps pack extra clothes in the backpack, and make sure your child can take care of themselves with their costume as adults will not be able to assist this year.  And lastly – no treats please!

This year, classrooms have been invited to a Door Decorating Challenge, which Mrs. Neves and Mrs. Hunter think are a shoe in to win!

Students have been colouring all week to enter the Halloween Colouring Contest!  There will be THREE school winners who will win a $10 DQ gift card.

And of course, we always play schoolwide BINGO every holiday and this year will be no exception!  Instead of students running to the office for their Bingo prize though, each classroom has been provided with their own treat bags.  Riddles, trivia, and movie quotes are always a highlight!

Stay safe this Halloween if you have children trick or treating!

Weekly reminder:  at Monsignor Haller every Tuesday is SPIRIT DAY.  All staff and students are encouraged to wear Spiritwear or BLUE, GREY OR WHITE to show our school spirit!

School News:

School Forms:

There are a number of outstanding forms to be completed by families.  A note will come home with your child as a reminder.  However, all the forms are located on Schoolcash, so please log in and complete them.

Spirit Wear:

If you ordered Spirit Wear, it will be arriving next Tuesday.

Fundraisers:

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY to support our School Council Fundraiser!

Please check your schoolcash online account for purchasing PUMPKINS for our Council’s fundraiser.  Attached here is the Council letter with both our Pumpkin and From Farm to Table options to support school fundraising this fall: Beg Year Fundraiser

  1. Herrle’s Pumpkins: check out schoolcash online to order your coupons to pick a field pumpkin at our local farm.  The family with the most PUMPKINS wins a $25.00 Herrle’s Gift Card!
  2. From Farm to Table:  if you would like to avoid the shipping costs, families may pick up their orders.  The pick up location is in Cambridge.

Add the letters PU to the end of our school code and in the notes section of the order add you would like to pick up. It would take about 2 days and they would receive an email when it’s ready for pick up at https://farmtotablefundraising.ca/

Fundraising Code: MHCS20C1

Interviews

Unfortunately, we will not be able to host our traditional in-person Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences this year. You will be contacted by your child’s classroom teacher soon to schedule a virtual or telephone interview to discuss your child’s progress so far. These interviews will take place between November 24th and 26th. If you would like to connect with your child’s French, Planning Time, or Itinerant Planning Time teacher, please contact the teacher to set up an interview:

Upcoming Important Dates:

November 2: School Advisory Council Meeting at 6pm via Google Meets

November 20 – Progress Report Distribution (postponed from original date of November 10)

November 23: Faith PD Day (this is a Monday)

November 24-26 – Interviews – telephone or virtual.  Teachers will be reaching out to families in the upcoming weeks.  Please check your Google Classrooms.

Parish Updates:

If you know of any family needing help with food or Christmas hampers, please call the school or the church and we can assist in connecting St. Vincent de Paul or better have the family call the church so we can help set up something.

Second, The SVDP will be working again with the Christmas Program and Blessed Sacrament Church will be one of the pickup sites for families this December.

The biggest change is that there will be NO toys collected. They are asking for gift cards to Walmart or Giant Tiger only. Families will be given the food needed and gift cards to go and buy what they want.

If you choose to have something at your school we are asking that gift cards be delivered to the church (or I can set up a pick up if needed) by November 20th. I realize this seems early but we need to have the time to organize packages for each family.

If you have any food items that were donated let me know and I can come and pick it up.

Thank you for your continued support with the Church and with St. Vincent de Paul.

WCDSB Updates:

Please read the letter from our Director regarding Transitions of Learning Platforms and a Thought Exchange Survey:   October Update to WCDSB and TE Invite

Please note that the November Transition period has been cancelled based on stakeholder feedback.  More details are in the attached letter.

WCDSB & Ministry Masks

Good morning Hawks,

Students will be receiving MASKS from the Ministry and the WCDSB this week. Each student will receive 1 black mask from the Ministry and 3 additional grey ones from the Board.

Students can also continue to wear their own masks, but these provide another option for your child! You may choose to keep them at home or use as needed.  When you receive them, there is a spot for your child’s name on the back to be labelled.

Thank you for ensuring that the students have a clean mask to wear each day.

School News:

Staffing Changes:

Thank you to all families for being patient as we continue to experience staffing changes.  Most recently you already know that Mrs. Cotter was reassigned to St. Isidore Remote Learning School and Mrs. Norman was reassigned to the grade 4/5 teaching assignment.  This caused a shuffle in students moving classrooms, but we are happy to report everyone has settled in!

This week we saw Mrs. Lynn, our ECE in Ms. Adams kindergarten class, also reassigned to St. Isidore, and Mrs. Fontes moved on.  We welcome two new ECE’s Ms. Yake and Ms. Gould to room K and are excited for them to join our hawk’s nest!

Halloween Reminder:

Many of our traditional schoolwide events have been cancelled or postponed since the start of this new school year.  One that we would like to continue within our school community is to welcome all our hawks in costumes on Halloween!! (Oct. 30).  Alternatively, your child may choose to come in black and orange, or a Halloween t-shirt etc.

As always, if your child chooses to dress up, please be conscious of the type of costume your child is planning on wearing to school.  Students wearing /bringing weapons or other inappropriate costumes that violate our Catholic values will be asked to change.  Students are encouraged to think about the costume they want to wear and leave props, pieces & accessories at home to avoid them being lost, broken or ruined at school. Especially is if it a cold or wet day  — it  is best to save the good costumes for Trick or Treating (hoping children are allowed to go out this year).   *NEW*  due to COVID, staff will NOT be assisting with any costumes or costume fails.  So, again, please be conscience of the costume selection.

Please note that treats of any kind (cupcakes, cookies, Halloween candy, chips or chocolate) will not be passed out this year and families are refrained from sending them to school.  Thank you very much for your understanding!!

We look forward to marking this holiday with some of our annual traditions such as schoolwide Halloween Bingo, staff costume theme, <virtual> Halloween Parade and more!

Progress Report Cards:

Please note that progress report cards will be sent home later than usual this year due to COVID implications regarding transitions to learning environments.

Upcoming Important Dates:

October 23rd:  First Communion and Confirmation for the students who registered last year: at 7:00pm at Blessed Sacrament Parish (Sunday best – no need to purchase gowns/suits)

October 30th:  School Council Fundraiser Closes

October 31st:  BOO!  Halloween at Haller!

November 2:  School Advisory Council Meeting at 6pm via Google Meets

November 23: Faith PD Day * this is a Monday

Good morning hawks!

A few early announcements this week:

  1. Please dress for the weather!  It is cold and wet, but we are braving the elements and heading outside at recesses.  The kids are loving it!  Well, the ones that are dressed appropriately are.  Please bring a toque, mitts, a jacket suitable for light rain, an umbrella, etc.  Dress for the great Canadian weather!  Arriving as close to the bell as possible is a good idea as we do not have supervision or let children into the building until 8:35am.
  2. Herrle’s Pumpkins: check out schoolcash online to order your coupons to pick a field pumpkin at our local farm
  3. From Farm to Table:  if you would like to avoid the shipping costs, families may pick up their orders.  The pick up location is in Cambridge.

Friday Flash…a look ahead!

Good morning Hawks,

Principal’s Message:

I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our hawks who made it look easy, once again!  Tuesday was the first day of a fairly major switch at Monsignor Haller with many students moving classes or welcoming others into their class.  The students adapted so well, lined up with their new classes, got into the building and the learning began!

A huge THANK YOU to all of the parents for your continued support with these unique situations that are beyond our control!

A huge THANK YOU to all of the students who once again, are so resilient and took the change in stride!

And, of course, a HUGE THANK YOU to the teachers who spent many hours over the Thanksgiving Weekend planning and preparing for their new classes!

None of this could happen without sacrifice, patience, teamwork, and a genuine care for our Monsignor Haller Hawks!

At Monsignor Haller every Tuesday is SPIRIT DAY.  All staff and students are encouraged to wear Spiritwear or BLUE, GREY OR WHITE to show our school spirit!

WCDSB Updates:

Last year the WCDSB launched our Pastoral Theme: Called to Belong.  We could not have foreseen what the future held, yet the Spirit was with us, guiding our theme and moving us to create a deep sense of BELONGING and connection during such a difficult journey.  We feel the same about the second year of our three-year Pastoral Plan, entitled Gathered to Become.

In John 6:35, Jesus proclaims “I am the bread of life.”

Let this year of Becoming truly be a year of Transformation.  As the Eucharist transforms us, so let us be the “Bread of Life” to all we encounter.  May we experience transformation this year – from the challenges of new learning situations, platforms and learning environments – to allow us to emerge from our chrysalis healthy and strong and to successfully be able to spread our wings and soar.

Please enjoy our new Gathered to Become Pastoral Launch video https://youtu.be/PBQFPsoeE9Q
