Happy EA and CYCW appreciation day

Happy EA and CYCW DAY

The staff and students at Monsignor Haller would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our Educational Assistants and Child and Youth Care Workers on “EA and CYCW Appreciation Day!”  A good Educational Assistant and Child & Youth Care Worker must be friendly in nature, patient, and sensitive towards the needs of children they support. It is with your support, your dedication to our students, and your commitment to the success of each child, that helps our students and school be successful.  The growth that we see in our students is not measured each day, but each year, and when we reflect on our students who need your support most, the growth we see across their school careers is amazing – and it is because of you!  THANK YOU for all that you do to make our schools safe places where our students have an opportunity to learn, grow, feel valued, achieve their full potential, and for always being that much needed support for all of us as a staff!  It truly takes a special person to do what you do and we all know that without Ms. Natale, Ms. Tkachyk, Ms. Metzger, Ms. Harun, Ms. O, Ms. Doerr and the Ms. Davis’s…we just couldn’t do it!

*IMPORTANT* Updated Attendance Procedure

Please be reminded that as of June 5, attendance is no longer to be emailed or called into the school. Please use the following instructions to report your child’s attendance. Please note this is also how attendance will be taken in high school.

At the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, one of our greatest priorities is ensuring that all our students arrive safely at school each and every day.

To enhance our existing absence-checking procedure, we are introducing a new, more efficient student absence reporting system called SafeArrival.  This new system will reduce the time it takes to verify student attendance, make it easy for you to report your child’s absence and easy for staff to respond to unexplained student absences.

With SafeArrival, you are asked to report your child’s absence in advance using any of these 3 convenient methods:

  1. Using your mobile device, download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store (or from the link at SchoolMessenger).
  2. The first time you use the app, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.
  3. Use the SafeArrival website, SchoolMessenger. The first time you use the website, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.
  4. Call the toll-free number 1-833-251-3283 to report an absence using the automated phone system.

These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week.  Future absences can be reported at any time.

In addition, we will use the SchoolMessenger Communicate automated notification system to contact parents whose child is absent when the absence was not reported in advance. The automated notification system will attempt to contact parents at multiple contact points until a reason is submitted for the absence. If our system is unable to reach the designated contacts, office staff will follow up.

If you report your child’s absence in advance using the SafeArrival toll-free number, website or mobile app, you will NOT receive these notifications.

We have come to the end of our 2023-2024 school year – and what a great year it has been!  We have so much to be grateful for, like the new families we have welcomed into our community, the friends we have made, the laughter we have shared, the teachers who have guided us and the learning we have done.  Thank you for the memories!

It was so wonderful to see so many families out for Family Fun Night! Thank you for attending and enjoying our time together. It was a hot day, but we still made the best of it with lots of drinks and cool treats! Thank you for a wonderful year!

Families are encouraged to access parent resources on the Strong Start website. There are FREE, downloadable activity resources that have been designed to be fun, engaging and interactive. The games and activities promote early reading skills and provide simple ideas for families to support literacy development at home. These resources are a great way to continue learning over the summer months. The instructions are also translated into other languages using Google Translate.
